Designed for beginner or infrequent chainsaw users and tree workers, this 8hr program focuses on safe working techniques and the components of a successful tree feeling plan. Introduction to Tree Felling is perfect for anyone who is beginning to fell trees on a regular basis or would like to know more as an occasional practitioner. Professionals like Park staff, groundworkers, linemen or wildland firefighters also benefit from this introductory program that focuses on felling trees up to 25cm diameter.

• Inspection of chainsaw safety features and PPE
• Worksite hazard assessment
• Safe chainsaw starting, handling, and operation
• Techniques to safely manage springpoles and wood fibre under compression or tension
• Safe felling techniques for trees up to 25cm DBH
• Assessing leans and weight distribution
• Notch and back cut selection
• Creating and selecting appropriate escape routes
• Light mechanical advantage tools such as wedges and felling levers
• Proper use of felling sights
• Basic chainsaw maintenance and chain filing
• Safe limbing and bucking techniques
