Advanced Tree Felling

Designed for the experienced arborist or logger, this 2-day program focuses on advanced felling techniques and trees with elevated risk factors like significant lean or decay. Creating safe and efficient felling plans that function in ‘real world’ scenarios and enhance worker safety make up the foundation of this program. Chainsaw maintenance and filing will also be thoroughly covered to give workers the best possible chance at getting the job done safely and efficiently.

 

Topics Include:

• Inspection of chainsaw safety features and PPE
• Worksite hazards and tree risk assessment
• Safe chainsaw starting, handling, and operation to minimize fatigue
• Techniques to safely manage springpoles and wood fibre under compression or tension
• Safe felling techniques for trees with increased risk factors (internal decay, heavy leans)
• Assessing leans and weight distribution
• Notch and back cut selection including bore cutting
• Creating and selecting appropriate escape routes
• Calculating Lift and using wedges for mechanical advantage
• Setting ropes and rigging for mechanical advantage
• Chainsaw maintenance and advanced chain filing techniques and tools
• Safe limbing and bucking techniques to reduce operator fatigue
